The beginnings of Vladimír Koštial’s (1912–2001) photographic work date back to the 1930s, and he brought it to a close at the start of the Normalization period. With his camera, he captured virtually everything that was happening in his region at the time—namely, in the vicinity of Tatranská Lomnica, or more broadly, in the Tatra Mountains. Koštial’s photographs thus possess not only undeniable artistic value but also great documentary value and rank among the greatest discoveries in Slovak photography in recent years. A representative monograph was produced for the exhibition in collaboration with the Valchařská Gallery.
