Boris Baromykin began taking photographs at the age of thirteen. With his 6×6 Flexaret hand-crank camera, he roamed the streets of his hometown, Třebíč, trying to capture everything that struck him as interesting and important. Because of its romantic atmosphere and photogenic qualities, the mysterious neighborhood across the river known as Židy became a frequent destination for his visits. “What I’ve always enjoyed about photography is the adventure and the eternal question: how did it all turn out, how did the pictures turn out?” says the photographer.
The Helbich Printing House calendar presents a selection of his photographs from the second half of the 1950s as a document of life in a small town through the changing light and seasons.
The calendar won the GRAND PRIX award in the 2021 Calendar of the Year competition.
