The exhibition project *Miloš Budík – I Am a Photographer*, created in collaboration between the Brno City Museum and the Valchařská Gallery, presents three exhibitions by the prominent Czech photographer Miloš Budík, summarizing his life’s work.
Curator Lukáš Bártl spent the last 16 years with Miloš Budík (1935–2023), going through his extensive archive of photographic work and uncovering what it still holds. During that time, a deep friendship developed, giving rise to a number of remarkable projects. Who would have expected that, at the twilight of the photographer’s life, the significance of his work would be highlighted and reaffirmed? Thanks to the rare relationship between the curator, the photographer, and the printer, interesting calendars, publications, exhibitions, and an interview were created, primarily in connection with the Valchařská Gallery at the Helbich Printing House, which since 2014 had become Budík’s exclusive space, where he never missed a single event.
Miloš Budík passed away this past February, leaving curator Lukáš Bártel with the challenge of completing the extensive book and realizing the exhibition they had been working on together until the very end.
